Brentford 3-0 Preston North End: Bees win to confirm top-half finish

Brentford’s Julian Jeanvier was stretchered off after a 10-minute stoppage

Brentford secured a top-half Championship place with a commanding victory over fellow mid-table finishers Preston.

Home defender Julian Jeanvier was stretchered off after a head injury in the opening seconds at Griffin Park, leading to 13 minutes of added time in the first half.

The Bees took the lead in that injury time, centre-back Ezri Konsa sweeping home his first goal for the club from a ball across the box that was not cleared.

Neal Maupay turned in his 25th league goal of the season to double Brentford’s advantage before substitute Marcus Forss fired in a third, low into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Sergi Canos was the architect for Maupay’s strike, pulling a ball from the byline, while Finnish forward Forss’ goal was his first in the Championship.

Brentford finish 11th after a 14th home league win this term, with Alex Neil’s Preston three places and three points behind.
